◼️ Lesson 2 - What language do you speak? How do you say this in Thai? What language do you like?

Summary

  • This and That:

    • Learn how to ask "What is this/that?" and respond with "This/That is a remote."

  • Difference Between "คือ Keu" and "เป็น Bpen":

    • "Keu" is used like an equal sign (e.g., "this = remote"). Also it is often omitted. (You can also think of the word "keu" as "is" in English.

    • Negation of คือ (Keu) is also done with ไม่ใช่ (mai chai) like for เป็น (bpen).

  • Talking About Languages:

    • How to say "I speak Thai, Spanish, Turkish, etc."

  • Asking for Translations:

    • Learned how to ask "How do you say this in Thai?"

  • Expressing Preferences:

    • How to say "I like to speak Thai."

  • Using Adjectives:

    • is/am/are ("keu" and "bpen") are only used before nouns (NOT adjectives) For example:

      • I am a doctor

        • ผมเป็นหมอ = pŏm bpen mŏr = (Literally): I am doctor

          • "doctor" is a noun so you can use "bpen"

      • Thai language is good

        • ภาษาไทยดี (paa-săa tai dee) = (Literally): Thai language good

          • "good" is an adjective, so you can't use "bpen"
